I have my computer plunked in front of bookshelves. The shelves are filled with cook books. If you have noticed the last several posts have all had something to do with food. What I see definitely influences me! I’m careful about what I watch on TV, (oldies but goodies). Most of today’s programing wouldn’t pass the Christian test. Breaking commandments and seducing us with ideas that are contrary to God’s teaching, is the standard for sitcoms or movies. In this home we watch a lot of old, old, old reruns and even some of those shows show us where the Networks started to go wrong. If something promotes a homosexual life style or aborting an inconveniently timed baby as a normal choice (which it isn’t), or shows that make excuses for all types of debauchery, then it’s wrong to watch and a terrible influence. Please don’t think we are immune to influence. What we see is what we become. Guard your eyes to protect your souls.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your vision is clear, your whole body also is full of light. But when it is poor, your body is full of darkness. …Luke 11:34 And he ain’t talking about 20/20 vision!
1) Am I standing for the truth? 2) More importantly, am I fostering unity? 3) Most important of all, am I speaking in love?
I got this from BeeJai, The River Walk, and just had to share it. This is a fantastic check list for thinking before speaking. I’m planning with God’s help to put this into practice, it will make anyone a better person!
If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. ….Galatians 5:15
I grew up knowing this as “back biting”. In my thinking, it is born of an improper or confused understanding of yourself and your relationship with God. When you know you are loved and there is no one else like you; that the gifts and talents you have been given by God are to be used for the good of all of us, to get closer to God; then you will see your own worth and not worry about others’ talents. You will love them for their gifts. Everything is indeed for God’s glory.
