It was also called Mizpah, for he said, “May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from the other. …Genesis 31:49 New American Standard Bible
It sounds so sweet and loving, but it is in fact about not trusting the other person, and it’s about making a covenant with a heap of stones and a pillar (Mizpah is the word for the pillar or watchtower) as the witnesses before God. Basically it says be very honest because God is surely watching. He witnesses everything we do. Which is a fact, Jack.
I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. …Psalm 16:8
I was awakened last night with thunder that shook my house and rain mixed with hail that came in at a ferocious rate and a crazy angle. I have an eight foot porch around this house and the hail-rain mix hit the windows. As you might imagine I was frightened at first until I was fully awake and my first thought was God is with me. With a smile on my face, joy in my heart I went right back to sleep. I was happy to enjoy another moment awake with my loving God who is always with me. I wonder how people feel when they think they are alone when something frightening happens in the middle of the night.
“We do not understand the intricate pattern of the stars on their courses, but we know He who created them does, and that just as surely as He guides them, He is charting a safe course for us.” …Billy Graham
“Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing.”
I need to be more like Mother Teresa who cared for the homeless, ravaged, poor and displaced. When I turn my back on the poor and forgotten in our society do I think God doesn’t notice?
Here in the Rio Grande Valley I witness the tragedy of migrants, abandoned by the human traffickers, dying in the harsh environment to avoid the border checkpoints. What am I doing to save these souls – isn’t this a question to which I, as a Christian, should have the answer? To live love “I need to know” what to do and help them.
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. …1 John 4:8
