Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head
“Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head, You have got a manger bed.” I love the words and melody of this song, we are practicing as a choir for Christmas. It’s an American folk song about the Son of God sleeping in a trough – a raised structure to feed the animals from. He is the Bread come down from heaven, Jesus the baby in the manger is the food for our souls.
“I am the bread of life” John 5:48
I am going to share something very intimate that happened to me years ago. God spoke to me in a chapel in Maine. He said “Television takes away from prayer and meditation.” This post required more courage than I ever thought I would have. Most people don’t believe God still talks to us. I think God may have told me because I’m a sinner in great need of His love and mercy, not a saint. I’m sharing this because I believe this is for everyone not me exclusively. The last thing I want is to stand before Him and not to have shared this message with you. Maybe this is the job that was given to me. If that’s the case, I can handle any ridicule I might receive.
“…you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
Now what would be the point of seeking God and finding Him if He didn’t speak to us? I was recently at a place where I got the impression that people didn’t think God still talked to us. It was as though He had become mute in His old age. All I can think is I must have gotten that wrong. I believe God can talk to us in as many ways as are possible to communicate, millions and millions of millions of ways. Why on earth would our Creator be unable to talk to us?
All I know is that He speaks to me. That’s why I am sharing my thoughts, inspirations. I’m attempting to make up for all the stupid, disobedient years I squandered both time and God given talents. I missed Him. It was my loss. He was here, I was an absentee. So when I thank God for all He does for me, He not only hears me, but He helps me, guides me, loves me and keeps me in His Grace! Now how can He do any of that without talking to me?
“This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
My thought raced to different scenarios; someone in prison; a women grieving – who lost her child; someone struggling with addictions and then the quote I chose. In all these things there is room to rejoice when we choose God. Jesus makes every scenario better. Unless you’ve chosen Him, you will never know what I’m talking about. That’s today’s thought. Chose Jesus and rejoice!
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” ..Philippians 4:8
I have missed out on getting closer to God by dwelling on stupid things that are out of my control.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV
I have this embedded in my heart.
He is my salvation. He shows me the way. He forgives all my sins. When I turn back to Him for His love and consolation, He rushes to give it to me! If God does all this for the likes of me, I know He will do the same for you!!!
